David Seligman Announces Intent to Create ICE Accountability Unit in Colorado Attorney General's Office

Elite prosecution unit in Colorado AG’s office will prosecute ICE agents who violate state law, pursue private contractors like GEO Group that abuse and exploit people in immigrant detention, and investigate local governments and state agencies that collaborate with ICE

Denver, CO – Today, David Seligman, candidate for Attorney General, announced his intent to establish an elite unit in the Colorado Attorney General’s office that will prosecute ICE agents who violate our rights, investigate and pursue private contractors like GEO Group that exploit immigrants held in detention, and investigate local governments and state agencies that collaborate with ICE.

“What happened in Minneapolis yesterday is horrific and chilling,” said Seligman. “It was also a warning shot–if states don’t use the tools at our disposal to hold Donald Trump’s personal ICE army accountable, we’ll continue to see deadly and lawless incursions into our communities.”

To combat Donald Trump’s weaponization of ICE, Seligman intends to establish an ICE Accountability Unit in the Colorado Attorney General’s office. This elite prosecution team will pursue criminal and civil cases against ICE agents who violate the rights of Coloradans. Additionally, the Unit will protect the health, safety, and fundamental rights of people abused and exploited by ICE contractors like the GEO Group, and investigate local governments and state agencies that collaborate with ICE.

“Hand-wringing on social media isn’t enough. States must act now to protect their residents and save our democracy,” said Seligman. “Working for Donald Trump doesn’t give you a get-out-of-jail-free card. States–and statewide officials–have to lead by enforcing the laws that protect all of us. Flipping the incentives is key: when you violate the law by doing Donald Trump’s bidding, whether you’re carrying a gun and terrorizing our communities or exploiting his immigration scheme for profit, you’re a top enforcement priority for the state of Colorado.”
